Versione di Re Giacomo (KJV)

Revisione

La versione della Bibbia di re Giacomo non era una nuova traduzione, ma una revisione della Bibbia inglese commissionata dal re Giacomo I di Gran Bretagna, in seguito alla conferenza di Hampton Court della Chiesa d'Inghilterra nel 1604.54 studiosi di Londra, Oxford e Cambridge lavorarono alla progetto. Erano tutti della Chiesa d'Inghilterra (anglicani), ma includevano quelli di vedute tradizionali e puritane.

Ufficialmente la Bibbia del vescovo del 1586 fu usata come base per la revisione, ma gli studiosi fecero riferimento a tutte le traduzioni bibliche esistenti in inglese, come la Bibbia di Ginevra e Tyndale, e anche edizioni in altre lingue. La Bibbia completa fu stampata per la prima volta nel 1611 e comprendeva gli Apocrifi, omessi da questa edizione.

Emissione del 1769

Nel 1611 l'ortografia e la punteggiatura inglesi non erano nelle forme standard e la Bibbia subì una revisione principalmente ortografica da parte delle università di Oxford e Cambridge nel 1769, che è la versione che la maggior parte delle persone usa oggi. I diritti della versione della Bibbia di Re Giacomo erano, e sono tuttora protetti dalla legge britannica e sono conferiti alla Corona.

Edizione della Società Biblica

Nel 1804 fu fondata la British and Foreign Bible Society (BFBS) e stamparono milioni di copie economiche della Bibbia affinché le persone potessero comprarle e leggerle. Attraverso il lavoro delle Società Bibliche la King James Version (KJV) divenne la versione più stampata e libro molto letto nel mondo.

Edizione con paragrafi del 1954

La King James Version è stata stampata con ogni nuovo verso che inizia su una nuova riga. Nel 1954 la British and Foreign Bible Society ha prodotto una nuova edizione della KJV, mantenendo il testo originale del 1769, ma aggiungendo sottotitoli e paragrafi, rendendone più facile la lettura.
